Why is the White House called so?

The White House didn’t always have this name. But it has always been the official residence of the American president. Initially it was called the President’s house or mansion or palace. It was built of grey sandstone at first but it was restored in 1817 as it had been burned in the war of 1812. Then the walls were painted white and it came to be called the White House. In 1902, Theodore Roosevelt adopted it as its official name.
