A Grandma’s Advice
Grandparents are the only souls on Planet Earth who can spoil you rotten and be loved for it. I have been very close to mine except for my paternal grandmother who left us when I was very young.
Luckily for me, both my grandfathers and my grandmother were not into giving advice unless asked for. Their advice was perhaps reserved only for their naughty children who were giving us a bad time! My grandma got paralysed when I was in the seventh standard and after my grandfather passed away two years later, she came to stay with us. She had become a bit grumpy after her stroke so I was careful while dealing with her. Soon, we became friends- good friends. We could actually tease each other or gang up against Ma, or have a happy Maggi dinner when my parents had to party. She would sit and watch music videos (a rare treat then) and comment on Michael Jackson’s “Bad” album with such disapproval. She would never miss seeing it though. We shared a great bond and I do miss her.
Grandma did advise me on the birds and the bees and she would teach me to prioritise my work but more than anything, she taught me by example not to despair and to continue living with enthusiasm.
