How Does One Go About Creating A Blog?
There are several online sites like www.Blogger.com, www.windowslive.com, www.wordpress.com that you can log on to, to start your blog. Getting your blog started is as simple as getting an email id, actually simpler. The site will prompt you from one step to the other and in a matter of minutes you will have your own blog.
There are a million blogs out there. If you want to be noticed, you want to be read then you have to make sure that your blog content is interesting. Moving to the next blog is as simple as clicking the mouse so you want to keep your reader’s attention.
- Don’t write a blog simply because you want to post something. Write something that’s worthwhile. If you can’t think of something, then borrow thoughts. Share other people’s thoughts, review a book, or grade a movie.
- Respect your reader and yourself. Always proof-read your work and look out for those grammatical errors. Polish your writing.
- You want your readers coming back for more. Most people don’t have the time or the patience to read long articles. Keep it short, simple and to the point.
- Not all of us are creative writers so it may not be a masterpiece every time you sit to type but keep it lively, and upbeat and simple. Remember the journalist’s rule of 5W’s: who, what, why, when and where. You can’t fail with that.
- If you want random people to check out your blog then remember to use keywords often. Search engines feed on keywords and they will bring your random reader right to your blog. So at the beginning of the blog always state your purpose or the gist of your blog. The more often your keywords show up, the easier it is for search engines to pick you up.
- Use short sentences and try to stick to just one idea per sentence.
- Write like you talk. That gives the blog a personal feel to it. Readers can relate to you.
- If the purpose of the blog is interaction, you want your readers leaving your comments. A reader must feel moved to write a comment. So you have to stimulate them to comment. A good way to do that is to ask your reader a question in the end.
- Add pictures to the blog. Everyone loves to see pictures. They just seem so real.
- Link often to other blogs or websites. It helps to build your credibility and makes a good impression on the reader.
- Oh and the golden rule, keep saving your work as you write it. You don’t want to start all over again.
- Once you are done writing the post before you hit the button save, quickly reread your post and this time view it like a reader and not as the writer. Ask yourself if the writing is clear, if the headline is appropriate, if you have made your point in a precise manner. Does the main paragraph tell who and what the story is about and why the reader should care about it? Would a reader with no knowledge of the topic be able to follow it? and don’t forget the main question: What’s in it for them? because that’s what the reader is thinking when he is reading your blog. When you have answered those questions satisfactorily feel free to go ahead and save. It is time to publish your biog.
The blog world being as big as it is reader memory is very short. If you want to be visited, then you have to visit others too. Blogs are real and the people who write them are real. So if you like someone’s blog be generous with your comments. Everyone likes their work to be appreciated. That’s the way to build blog friends. Keep in touch. Remember that ‘Out of sight is out of mind’ so you have to be seen to be remembered.
Blogging can be a lot of fun when you use the right blogging tools. Imagine swimming in your evening clothes. You wouldn’t do that, would you? No! You would use a swimsuit simply because it makes swimming easier. That’s what blogging tools do, they make blogging easier.
