A Visit to the Night Market
On every Wednesday from 7.00 p.m. to about 11.30 p.m., a night market is set up on the road behind our street. All vendors sit in front of a row of shops. Nearly fifty to sixty vendors keep their goods on sale at the night market. It has become a regular thing for me to visit the night market with my mother.
On last Wednesday evening at about 7.30 p.m., my mother and I paid a visit to the night market. As it was dark, the vendors had lit their rechargeable fluorescent lamps. From a distance, the lamps seemed to add brilliance to the living sea of humans that had assembled at the market.
We stepped into the market carefully as there were many people. In fact, we had to be careful not to knock into the other shoppers. First, we visited a bakery where cakes, biscuits, buns, bread and many other local tastes and delicacies were sold. Mummy bought some buns, pieces of pineapple pastry and cherry biscuits for me and other siblings at home.
We then walked over to the vegetable stall to buy some fresh vegetables. Next to the vegetable stall, a medicine seller had set up shop and was shouting roughly praising the effectiveness of his medicine to the partly interested shoppers. I thought, poor man, if kept on shouting like that, he himself might need the medicine.
Next, we stopped and bought some apples, grapes and sliced pieces of pineapple from our regular fruit vendor. That was the last thing we needed to buy. As it was still only 8.20 p.m. we decided to walk around a bit and look at the other things on sale.
There were vendors selling toys, music compact discs, clothes, belts, balloons, purses, wallets, books, posters, mobile phone casings, crockery and all sorts of other goods. Business seemed to be good for most of the sellers. There was no shortage of buyers. Everyone seemed to have something to sell or buy.
After spending another fifteen minutes or so in the market, I felt tired. Thus, I mentioned to my mother to return home. Together we walked carefully out of the night market and proceeded towards home.
