Tailor- The Garment Maker
He has magic in his fingers; he feels the fabric and designs in his mind. He is the tailor; the local craftsman on him we depend so completely to make garments for us.
Tailoring is one of the most important elements of modern fashion and has had a profound impact on the aesthetic development of fashion. It developed in Europe between the 12th and 14th century with the cloth being the important feature of any garment. During Renaissance, the focus shifted towards using clothing to accentuate the body and this is when tailoring developed in importance with masters of the craft being celebrated. With the onslaught of readymade garments, the masses are flocking to malls. While ready-mades offer the ease of buying and wearing, the fit a tailor gives is unmatchable. Today, it may not be very well paid in India, but in certain countries, tailoring is one of the best-paid professions. After all, a designer can sketch a design but it is the tailor who brings it alive on clothes.
