Aiding the AIDS Patient
HIV/AIDS is one of the most dreaded words confronted by mankind in the last few decades. A person contracting AIDS is literally shunned by society when in fact; he needs a strong support system at that time.
I saw the trauma of an AIDS patient up close; a close friend who’d been diagnosed with the disease. Rushing through the corridors, I tried to frame up a pleasant conversation. I saw him lying on the bed, a pale image of the boisterous boy we knew. I hugged him and talked about the latest happenings in class. He looked scared as we repeated the oft-heard phrase of ‘Never say Die. Some jokes, some funny incidents, and a shared meal made him feel much better. He promised the doctor to follow a strict disciplined regimen to avoid complications.
Our friends have been visiting him regularly since then, helping him study at home, play games, and show him that he is still a part of our lives.
