I Will Vote When I Can
Every citizen who has attained the age of eighteen years enjoys the right to vote irrespective of caste, creed, religion, or gender. It is essential to exercise this right as it is the mainstay of democracy as we can elect a government made of us, by us, and for us. I am eighteen years old today and looking forward to being able to vote. My parents got some formalities completed to enroll my name in the voter’s list and receive a voter identity card from the Election commission. I have filled up the prescribed application form and submitted it to the local election commission office. My photo has been taken and very soon I shall be able to hold the coveted card in my hand. It will have details of my name, father’s name, age, sex, residence address, constituency code No., and photographs. I am elated to participate in the electoral process of the world’s largest and most complex democracy. If I don’t vote, I have no right to criticize the system.
