Indoor Plants
Satish grows indoor plants in his house. I asked him ‘why’? He replied, these reduce components of indoor air pollution such as volatile organic compounds, carbon dioxide and airborne microbes. The air inside the house is thus, healthier. Additionally, these plants are decorative and make the room look aesthetically appealing. ‘Can we grow ‘any’ plant indoors’ I queried? No, most commonly grown are tropical or indoor plants, succulents and bulbs. Some examples are Aloe Vera, Money Plant, Mimosa (sensitive plant), Rubber plant, Ferns, Cacti, and indoor Bonsais. ‘What care do you take’ I inquired further? O.K., the major factors to be borne in mind are soil mixture, moisture, light, temperature, humidity, fertilizers and pest control although these vary according to the plant. Moreover, a few like Money Plants grow well either in soil or in water. ‘You have acquired a lot of knowledge’ said I in an admiring gesture. He offered his help to aid me in developing this hobby further.
