Can stars last forever?

Stars also grow old and die. Stars die in two different ways. Some shine steadily for a while and then swell into red giants. Some red giants shrink into a white, then a black dwarf. This is what will happen to the sun. Others might swell up from a red giant to a supergiant before exploding.
