Holi celebrated worldwide!
Now foreigners need no longer flock to cities like Jaipur, Pushkar, Vrindavan, Agra, Delhi and so on for Holi as they are having their very own Holi-themed parties in several countries across the world, such as United Kingdom, Germany, Spain, the Netherlands, Mexico and Brazil!
German entrepreneur, Jasper Hellman, attended a no celebration in 2011 and took home the idea to be Berlin, where he organised a ‘Paint Party-Holi, Festival of Colours.’ It was the peak of summer there and the party was such a resounding success that it was followed up with similar celebrations in London and Manchester in 2013. Festival-goers bought tickets priced up to 38 pounds (Rs 3500). They were encouraged to wear white and buy gulal at the festival site. An all-day pass included five bags of colour. The organisers admit that though this is commercial and lucrative, people are still drawn to the festival because it creates an atmosphere of equality. This may not be ‘Holi’ as it is played in the land of its origin, but like Britain’s Hindu community, most other people welcome the spirit behind it.
