A Day with Lord Krishna

My grandparents celebrate Janmashtami, Lord Krishna’s birthday, with great enthusiasm and devotion. This year, they invited a famous dance troupe from Mathura-Brindayan for the celebrations. As the troupe members got ready to perform for the evening festivities, they invited me to play the part of a Gopi. I felt shy at first but then consented. In those beautiful satin clothes, I felt every bit a Gopi! Through the entire dance I couldn’t stop gazing at Krishna. My mind felt at peace and I transcended into a state of divine ecstasy. The sound of the flute and the hymns made me sway to the beats of the dance and could feel intense devotion for Krishna. I had never felt like this before. The music got faster and so did the dance. As the crescendo built up, I had a feeling of total surrender. I have to admit, it felt as if the Lord was with me.
