Love of Food
Love of food is universal. As I see it, every festival, almost everywhere, is incomplete without food. Whether it is Diwali or Holi, Christmas or Id, it is looked upon as an excuse to have a fling of life, on the eating and drinking level. Some have what is called a sweet tooth and others a fancy for nankeens. Ladies find sour things irresistible apart from fried stuff with sauces and pickle overlaid. At Indian parties, it is not uncommon to witness men and women scramble for food as though they were famished. It is alright when they jockey energetically for positions at a buffet table. And what is more, eating is done in awesome silence and there is no question of seasoning it with suitable conversation. They eat and eat with single-minded concentration and so on till their eyes pop out and are as big as their belly.
