Net Friendship – Facebook Style
In the 1980s, pen-friends’ network was used to stay in touch with out-station friends. Children and adolescents wrote letters and receiving a message every month was a good frequency! The scene has changed today with the internet enabling replies in minutes. Sites like Orkut, Facebook, Twitter, and My Space have revolutionized friendships and their meaning. These social networking sites help initiate and develop friendships, though at times, with people one has never met. This can prove to be a dangerous trend, given the security problems. These interactive sites invite viewers to look at and respond to the descriptions portrayed online. People create personalized pages here to find friendship, love, and connections. Youngsters constantly message, tweak and comment on each other’s status, spending hours communicating. It is considered a social handicap not to be on these sites!
An interesting model of communication it is, but can be dangerously addictive and a security menace as one can’t control the prying eyes if not secured properly. Indulge in it but know your limits.
