She Is Still My Friend
Beautiful and brilliant, that’s what she was — my friend Sarah, at primary school.
We always stayed together and shared all our sorrows and joys. One summer, when I rejoined school, I learnt that Sarah had moved to Russia with her family. I was sad and tried making new friends but there was always avoid.
A few years passed by. One day, I chanced upon an advertisement for a circus. in our town. It had the picture of a young girl performing the trapeze. I strained my memory to place her as she looked familiar. It then came back in a flash; it was my friend Sarah! I was surprised to see her in this profession at a time when she should have been studying. Daddy promised to take me to the circus to meet Sarah.
We met each other with the same warmth and joy. She told me that she was working to support her father’s medical treatment and was studying alongside. We exchanged little gifts and then bade each other ‘goodbye’. I am glad she is still my best friend!
