A Football Match
Association football, more commonly known as football or soccer, is a team sport played between two teams of eleven players using a spherical ball. It is the most popular football variant worldwide, and is considered to be the most popular sport in the world.
This August when the Barclays Premier League was about to begin, the heat could be felt in our home thousands of miles away! The Premier League stands at first position, with the best names of the world of football playing here. This league has contributed immensely in raising the standard of football. It has always been successful in attracting a large number of spectators, us included. The organizers had put in a lot of effort to make the event gleaming and stimulating for the spectators. My husband and son were waiting for Saturday, 15th August, 2009, to watch the match between the brilliant teams of Fulham and Portsmouth. Both the teams have had glittering past records. This match was going to be tough and they were waiting to see it through. It was visible as we got glued to our TV that the fan following, of both the teams, was very huge and they were boosting up the morale of their most loved football players. The match started. Roy Hodgson’s side had a head start as Clint Dempsey’s shot took a heavy deflection off Bobby Zamora and went straight to the goal in the thirteenth minute. This was a perfect start for Fulham who were aiming to improve their position.
Then, the most shocking thing happened! The power went off for a long time so the fans back home had to go to bed. However, they saw the only goal that was scored in the match so that satisfaction remains!
