Annual-Day in School
The staff and students of my school celebrated the annual day at H.M. Tata auditorium in the school premises. The programme commenced with a prayer followed by school anthem. After the ceremonial lighting of lamp, it was time to celebrate the success of sports and academic achievers through a formal prize distribution ceremony.
Dignitaries present on the stage during the prize distribution included chief guest Harshada Balasaheb Mhaske, founder of SMCA swimming academy. Other dignitaries who graced the occasion were Dr. Hansraj Hathi, President of AMB Association of Doctors along with two senior trustees of a local school.
Our class prefect, Delzin Ookajee, read out the school annual report. However, annual day gives me great pleasure because it is a long awaited day for children to explore their talent and for parents to see their children performing. However, Tasneem Shaikh bagged the ‘Ideal Student Award’ while Mahesh Tambe bagged the ‘Most Talented Student Award’. After a few more names, my name was announced. First, I got a prize for the most disciplined boy of the school. I was awarded a set of storybooks and a set of English essay books. My name was called out for four times, as I had stood first in four of my favourite subjects – English, Science, History and Hindi. It was a proud moment for me. Class IX/ C was declared as the most disciplined and obedient class. Purple House bagged the best house in sports and Yellow house in co-curricular activities.
Our newly appointed Principal, Mrs Roxana in her speech highlighted the importance and the value of sports that are gradually fading. She said that it was batter to light a candle than to curse the darkness. She asked the parents to work towards educating children to distinguish between right and wrong. She concluded her speech by saying that the ex-students who have passed out from the school must also be a role model for their juniors. However, after her speech, our former Principal Mrs Karbhari was honoured for her retirement on the occasion.
Later a variety of entertainment programme included colourful dances and skits with strong social message were performed. Folk dances like Garba and Lavni were also performed by the students of standard VIII. Tlamara Bharat, Swatch Bharat’, a skit in English highlighted the message of Cleanliness. Dance medley and orchestra by students also formed a part of our school’s annual day.
This day had turned out to be a memorable day of my school life. Many of my friends and teachers congratulated me. Soon after I received the prizes, I realized how my father daily sat with me and coached me. It was his efforts at home that cleared many of my doubts and helped me to understand different things in different subjects. I realised that hard work always pays.
