Conjunctions

A conjunction is a word that connects other words or groups of words.

Marie and Mark were enemies. (and is the conjunction here because it connects two nouns in the sentence).

He will either walk or drive. (or is the conjunction here because or connects two verbs in the sentence).

He will sing but we will have to play the guitar. (but is the conjunction here connecting two groups of words).

The most common conjunctions are and, or, but, so, which .

Coordinating conjunctions are conjunctions which connect two equal parts of a sentence.
