In this fast moving world we really have to push ourselves to make it big. Survival is difficult. If you want more you have to give more- more time, more energy, more effort, more focus…. more and more! In the bargain we neglect ourselves and our health.
What is health? Health is the physical and mental condition of being free from illness and injury. Modern lifestyle has brought with it a variety of health problems- physical, mental, emotional and social. Physical health cannot be overemphasized. “In a sound body rests a sound mind.”The number of diseases are on a rise. Our lifestyle and the adulteration of our basic requirements have led to weakened immune systems. Temptations galore have seen obesity on the rise on one hand and AIDS on the other. Competition and stress have reached unmanageable levels. Feelings of inadequacy, discontentment and frustration are common. With the norms and values of the society changing there is an increase in broken marriages and broken homes leading to poor mental and emotional health. Nutrition is the major solution to our physical and mental well- being. A well balanced diet gives complete nourishment, thus, enabling the body to function better. It increases body resistance to diseases. Coupled with adequate sleep it gives the body strength to take on another day.
Science and technology have made life a lot easier but have also eroded the basic sense of goodness. Some things do not change. “Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise” or “All work and no play make Jack a dull boy” are time tested. Eat right, exercise regularly, breathe deeply, work hard and sincerely and sleep well to live a happy and healthy life.
