How I won the gold medal
My twin Daniel is a star athlete. He fell ill before the relay finals, and we decided that I would trade places with him.
I am no athlete and as I took the baton in the last lap, I noticed that the second team was behind by a good ten meters and the other team was out of sight. I ran as best as I could. As we reached the first bend, I felt my competitor closing up on me. I thought to myself, “this is my only chance, I just have to win”.
I would never have the opportunity ever again in my life. I raced on, the competitor hot on my heels. As we were reaching the finishing line, he pulled ahead of me. I knew I was going to lose but ran harder. Suddenly, my competitor slipped and fell and in that second I moved past him and crossed the finishing line. It wasn’t the best way to win, but I had won and got my gold medal. I was elated but when I got the medal I realized it had Daniel’s name on it.
