Physical Education In Schools
With children spending more and more time in front of the television and their choice of food leaning increasingly towards fast food, physical education in school has now become a necessity, and the need of the hour. Obesity is no longer something seen in adults who lead a sedentary lifestyle; you also see it in kids and the only way to prevent obesity is to increase physical activity.
Physical education teaches children the skills they need to be active throughout their lifetime. The values of exercise if inculcated in one so young can only mean an active generation of adults in the future. When children are active they are inclined to be intellectually more alert and engaged. Physical activity promotes a feeling of well-being and helps kids excel at other activities.
Increasingly, soft drink companies have their dispensing machines in school canteens and children are consuming these sugar-laden beverages at alarmingly high rates. This alone could be a contributing factor to the growth of diabetes and obesity in today’s children. If we can’t do away with sodas, then the least we can do is insist on physical education.
