Prime Minister Narendra Modi
Mr. Narendra Modi is the 15th Prime Minister of India. He belongs to the Bharatiya Janata Party. He was born on 17th September 1950 in Vadnagar in Mehsana district, Gujarat. He was the third of children born to Damodardas Mulchand Modi and his wife Heeraben. As a child and as a teenager, he ran a tea stall with his brother near a bus Stand. He completed his schooling in 1967 in Vadnagar. In 1978, he graduated through Distance Education. He got his Master’s degree in Political Science from Gujarat University.
When Modi was merely eight year old, he came in contact with RSS. He began to attend its local shakhas. Modi’s parents arranged his marriage as a child with Joshodaben. Their relations became estranged because Modi wanted to pursue an itinerant life. He became a full time pracharak of the RSS in 1970. Modi is a Hindu nationalist and a member of the RSS. The RSS assigned Modi to the BJP in 1985. In 1988, he was elected organising secretary of the BJP’s Gujarat unit. In 1995, he became National Secretary of the BJP.
Modi became the Chief Minister of Gujarat in 2001. He continued to be Chief Minister till he was elected Prime Minister by the BJP in 2014. As a Chief Minister, Modi’s idea of governance revolved around privatisation under his steward. Gujarat became a model of development. In 2013, Modi was appointed to the BJP Parliamentary Board. He was made the Chairman of the BJP’s Central Election Campaign committee for the 2014 general election. He led the NDA to Victory and was sworn in as Prime Minister on 26th May, 2014.
As a Prime Minister, he is working very hard to mitigate the sufferings of the people. He is trying to overhaul the system. It is hoped that he will succeed in fulfilling the promises made by him to public. Everyone looks to him with hope.
