Simple Pleasures
There are countless things that give us pleasure. Most of the time we take them for granted. Waking up to a beautiful sunny day in the middle of a snowy winter can make you smile. Watching Wimbledon with a cup of steaming hot tea and spicy hot samosas on a dark rainy day is one of my favourites. We spend most of our time whining about the things we don’t have, often forgetting to be grateful for the things we do.
There are numerous pleasures to be grateful for. The smell of a freshly baked cake on a dreary evening, the smile on your moms face when you get her flowers, the sound of a baby laughing, a glimpse of the girl you like in the train, catching the elevator when its almost closed, making it through the yellow light at the signal, reaching out into your pocket to find a 500Rs note you had forgotten was there its not like you got a gift but you definitely are richer than you thought you were before you found it.
Look around you and begin to appreciate the things that make you happy. It could be your favorite song being played at a concert, or the comforting warmth of mildly scented clothes just out of the drier. Once you start counting, you will be amazed by how blessed you are and how many simple pleasures you have been given. Whisper a quick thanks to the Lord and keep counting.
