T-20 Here To Stay ?
First there was test cricket, then came one day limited overs cricket and now, the T-20 cricket. Yes, we have watched as the game has gone from being a slow five day game to a really fast action packed 20 over game. There is only one thing that is constant in life and that is change. One can evolve only if one chooses to change. Yes, the T-20 cricket has changed the face and the pace of cricket as we used to know it. The once gentleman’s game is being slowly replaced by its slam bang version called T-20.
Is T-20 here to stay? Yes Cds replaced LPs, the cellphone replaced the land-line, the manual razor replaced the electric razor. Practically everything we know has undergone change. This era is about timeand speed and the older tardy format of test match cricket. just seems so out of place.T-20 seems to be garnering the interest of non-playing countries as well. Who knows? This short action paced type of cricket might be what gets cricket in to the Olympics?
Yes, this means that the new generation of players will be schooled to play T-20 and might be inept at playing the longer test series version. In the earlier day’s clothes used to be washed by hand. The washing machine changed that and today we don’t teach our kids how to hand-wash, we simply show them how to run the washing machine. Same with cricket. The old has to give way to the new. The new cricketers might never play the older version of the game but thanks to the faster version, cricket might actually not just survive but flourish and be played by more countries of the world.
