What Makes People Drink?
Different people drink for different reasons. Some drink because they are depressed, some because they want to celebrate, some because they are lonely, some just to give others company, some because it makes them feel brave, some to fight away the pangs of hunger, some because it makes them feel macho, and some to keep themselves warm.
Alcohol makes for a very good friend. It does not judge you, does not reprimand you, does not tell you to do stuff, in fact what alcohol does is it lets you go numb so that you don’t feel anything. You feel no inhibitions, no fear, no anxieties, no loss of pride, you feel nothing. You keep sinking
Those who drink claim that it is the one bad habit that effects only the user, that unlike smoking there is no such thing as second hand drinking. So basically drinking is less destructive than its cousin smoking. In their eyes it is what makes it justifiable to drink. The truth is that alcoholics are either running away from something or toward something and alcohol seems to be their choice of vehicle to get them there.
