Columbus Arrived Later, Was America Discovered Earlier
We have a special meaning in mind when we use this word discovered. We convey that someone from a civilization came to a region where no one from these places had been earlier. We know that an explorer finds a civilization or people already living there. To put it the other way round, these people discovered earlier to Columbus.
From the point of view of the western civilization, the new world discovered by Columbus was later visited and populated by people from the old world. The Norsemen some discovery. They sailed west and discovered Iceland, Greenland, and the American mainland. This all came about, about 500 years before the birth of Columbus.
The Chinese relate an even earlier voyage by their sailors to discover what has become California. People of the South Sea Islands sing about the past of their great men. who sailed to South America much before the white man reached either South America or its South Sea Islands. We all know that there may have been quite a number of ages of exploration during thousands of years. There were definitely ages of exploration before Columbus. We’re not the Indians living there already for centuries, perhaps before Norse-man as well as Columbus.
No one can dispute that the Indians did not set out on a voyage of discovery. It is strongly believed that the people came from Asia. It is not known to us when and how they visited. They came to America by different routes in a period spread over centuries. Their scouts were their explorers and perhaps nonother than them discovered America.
