What Is Water Composed Of?
Scientists wonder whether life is there on other planets. The existence of life is possible only if there is water. It is an odourless, tasteless, colourless compound and is in major proportion in all living things. Water occurs everywhere in the soil and is also available in varying amounts in the air.
The digestion of food by living things and further absorption, after it is dissolved in water. The living tissue is mostly water. Water is a simple compound of two gasses: Hydrogen, a light gas and oxygen, an active and heavier gas. The burning of hydrogen in oxygen resemble either of the constituents and has individual properties.
Water exists in three shapes like a liquid state, this state is most common. The second state is solid, called “ice” and the gaseous state when it exists as vapour. Temperature governs the state of water. At zero degree centigrade, it changes from water to solid-state on freezing, while at 100 degrees centigrade it changes from liquid to gaseous shape. This change from liquid to gas is called evaporation.
A piece of ice brought into 2 warm room starts melting and finally liquifies completely. Further rise in temperature makes water change to vapours. On cooling water expands just before reaching the freezing point. Water, as obtained from natural sources, is never pure, it contains minerals, dissolved gases and living organisms.
