When The First Police Was Fashioned?
A unique individual in world in your town is a “cop”. He is one among the “Local” police. The police force is a national organisation, in almost all countries of the world, and is a part of national government. In the United States, the system is independent and most decentralized. There are town police, city police, state police and country police.
We date back police to the very early history of man. The leader or ruler of a clan or tribe in primitive times depended upon his warriors to enforce conduct rules and keep peace among the people. In ancient Egypt the Pharaohs did the same thing and deployed the soldiers as police. Caesar Augustus, about the birth time of Christ, formed a city police for Rome. This force lasted for nearly 350 years. The job of this force was to carry out the imperial orders.
A new idea arose regarding a police force, sometimes between the years A.D. 700 and 800. This idea was about the enforcement of the rule of the law. This should be done by the police itself instead of by the king under is orders. This idea influenced the development of police in England and later on in the United States.
The ‘watch’ and ‘ward’ system was developed by the English. The watch was a night guard and the ward a day guard for the local area. This system was later taken to the United States by the colonists. The night watch was kept under the constables. They were over sixteen in age, with able bodies. They served without pay. This system was prevalent in most cities up to 1800’s.
The day time police use was started in the year 1838, in Boston. It was originated with a strength of one six men. The state New York, in 1845, passed the law; followed by Pennsylvania in the year 1856 that became the basis for setting up the modern 2olice force in the United States. The uniforms or badges were not worn by these policemen. This idea of police was soon followed for other cities.
