Why Do We Have The Feeling Of Tiredness?
Fatigue, can actually be considered a kind of poisoning. Lactic acid is produced when a muscle in the body works. The removal of Lactic acid from the body, reduces fatigue and permits us to resume work again
During the day, we ‘poison ourselves’, with Lactic acid. In the course of muscular activity, there are other substances in the body that produce “fatigue toxins”. These are carried by blood through the body, so that the muscle as well as the entire body get tired: including the brain.
Fatigue has been experimented upon by scientists. A dog falls asleep, if it is made to work until it is exhausted. The blood of this dog in then transferred into the body of another dog. The second dog will instantly become tired and fall asleep! Contrary to this if the blood of a wide-awake dog is transfused into the body of a tired, sleeping dog, the latter will wake up at once, no longer tired.
Let us know, fatigue is not just a chemical process, but also a biological one. We cannot just ‘remove’ fatigue. We must allow repair of the body cells. It is essential to have rest. Damages must be repaired, nerve cells of the brain must be “recharged”. The joints of body must replenish used up lubricants. Sleep will always be necessary as a way of restoring the body’s energy after fatigue.
There is an interesting thing to be remembered about resting process. A desk worker may not after hours of work want to lie down at all when he is tired. He would prefer a walk. Children back from school want to play and not lie down to rest.
The reason is that if a certain part of the body is tired say, the brain, the eyes, the hands, or the legs the best way to make that part feel fresh again is to make other parts of the body work. We can actually rest by means of activity. Activity increases respiration, the blood circulates faster, the glands are more active and the tired parts of our body. But if one is totally exhausted, the best thing to do is to go to sleep.
