How To Practice Script Writing
Choose a favorite story:
- Choose your favorite story from a book, comic, movie, etc.
- Identify the beginning, middle, and end of the story.
- Write down the story based on the essentials of scriptwriting.
Choose a word, verb or adjective, person, animal or place:
- Describe a character that best fits the word you have written.
- Write events in the story that lead to the situation being described by that word
- Write your story around the person or animal or the situation.
Here are some examples of some circumstances for you to base your script upon:
- A hungry beggar child is looking inside an ice-cream parlor seeing children inside enjoy their ice-creams.
- Parents return from work to find their child missing.
- A man jogging in the park finds a bag full of money.
- A boy playing on the beach finds an old lamp.
- The house pet dog destroys the school’s assignment.
Here are some character examples:
- Avery happy looking beggar
- A crying baby
- Unhappy parents
- A badly hurt boy
- A grumpy looking old woman
Story analysis
- Pick up any classic story and try to see if you can formulate an alternative ending to the story. • Identify the beginning, middle, and the end of the story.
- Identify the elements and structure of scriptwriting in the story.
- Try to convert the story into a play.
