Essay on “Fire”
There was a fire in our street last night. It was in a furniture warehouse. The noise of the fire engines woke me up. We live in a block of flats on the opposite side of the street from the warehouse. Our block is quite a bit further down the street and so we are not at risk. Our flat is on the eighth floor. We were able to see the fire from the window of our living room. My sister Nancy was terrified by the fire. I have a large toy fire engine which I played with a lot. I had never seen a real one at work before. There were four fire engines and lots of firefighters. The firefighters were wearing big boots and big hats. They had to protect themselves against the fire. The firefighters had long ladders. They climbed them to direct their hoses at the flames on the roof. Water poured out of the hoses to put out the flames. They seemed to need a lot of water. There were no ambulances and so we knew that no one had been hurt. The fire did not last very long. The fire engines soon left. We went back to bed. We were thankful that the fire had not been in our building.
