1. Jawaharlal Nehru was born in Allahabad on 14th November 1889.
2. He worked with Mahatma Gandhi and many other leaders of India to gain freedom for our country from the British rule.
3. He loved children and his birthday is celebrated all over India as Children’s Day.
4. Children all over India call him ‘Chacha Nehru’.
5. In 1929, he became the President of Indian National Congress.
6. He was sent to jail many times and faced many hardships.
7. While in jail, Pandit Nehru wrote many letters to his daughter and asked her to read the books he wrote sitting in a lonely cell in jail.
8. He was the first Prime Minister of free India.
9. Years later, his daughter, Indira Gandhi also became the Prime Minister of India.
10. He died on 27th May 1964, leaving a void few can fill.
