How is wind speed measured?
The instrument used to measure the wind speed is called anemometer. It was discovered in 1667 by an Englishman called Robert Hooke. An anemometer usually consists of some aluminium cups on a spindle. The cups turn with the wind and the speed of the wind is measured by counting the number of turns made by the cups in a given time.
