Hip Hop Music

While the roots of hip-hop are found in African-208 American music, the history of Hip-hop Music can be traced back to the days of slavery. When slaves were on the plantation singing spiritual songs they used a form of rap music. They had no instruments: they used beats from any object that they got their hands on. Whatever was on their mind would form the lyrics of the song. Sometimes they would sing about being free like a bird, other times about going back home. While they were on the porch or in the back yard other slaves would join in and add their part to the evolving lyric, similar to the hip-hop-rap music of today. After some lines, another person starts to take over.

The reason why hip-hop music is so popular today is that it offers the youth a chance to freely express how they feel. There is only one rule in hip-hop music and that is to be original. The rapper can rap about anything: the moon, how they feel, love, anything. Many times the lyrics pre-written on paper are forgotten at concerts and the rapper just starts rapping extempore.

Hip-hop music today is a big business; the four elements of hip-hop, emceeing, deejaying, graffiti, and break dancing are constantly being merged with others like clothing trends, slang, and the general mindset. At present, hip-hop is enjoyed all around the world. In spite, of all the controversies created by hip-hop artists, they are still growing in number. Hip-hop music is sold all over the world in stores and even online. Hip-hop is a lifestyle with its own lingo, dress code, etc. In the words of a hip-hop artist, “hip-hop is something you live, rap is something you do.”
