High Heels Or Sneakers
I played basketball for school. Basketball was my life. I was on the school team. It was my final year in school and we had to pick up one new art form. I couldn’t sine to save my soul nor did I have any interest in playing instruments so I had to pick dancing. I figured dancing would be easy, after all you needed to just be good on your feet. I was good on my feet, I wouldn’t have made it to the basketball team, otherwise.
I arrived at nay first dance class dressed in my jeans and blue Reebok sneakers. The dancing teacher looked me over while all the other kids began to point out at my feet and laugh. My sneakers seemed fine to me. The teacher asked me, “Are you here to learn dance or to learn basketball?” I looked at what the others were wearing. Everyone was dressed pretty. The girls were in dresses and high-heeled shoes and the boys were in dress shoes, all very formal. I was embarrassed by my ignorance. The teacher handed me a pair of spare shoes. I looked at them. I had never worn high heels before. They were strange looking pointed things and I didn’t want to wear them. It was a tough call to make. I heard the teacher say, ” Heels-you are in my class, sneakers you are out!” High heels or sneakers, it was the biggest dilemma I had ever faced. I really didn’t have a choice. I took off my sneakers and with a heavy heart, wore the heels.
