Mango Grove
During the summer holidays, I, with my cousins, visited a mango grove near our house. We entered the grove, crawling beneath the fence, hiding ourselves from the gardener. The place looked very enticing and our mouths were watering. We Couldn’t wait to aim our catapults at the golden ripe mangoes. With each aim, the fruits dropped with a thud, the sound fluttering our hearts each time. Sona and Ayush kept collecting the mangoes while Sumeet and I kept aiming at our targets. Finally, Sona whispered that her skirt was laden with our steal and couldn’t carry any more mangoes. Just then we heard footsteps – our worst fears were coming true. The gardener was walking our way. In the fastest turnaround ever, we sprinted towards the fence, clutching our ‘loot’ tight! We could hear the gardener yelling behind us but swift as we were, we crawled our way out to safety in the nick of time.
Back home shivering with excitement and fear, we narrated the incident to our Uncle who advised us to be genteel and seek permission next time but also rued the fact that he couldn’t participate in these fun things any longer!
