Rainwater Harvesting
Water is essential to life and every drop counts. The everyday images of long queues for water, taps running dry, supply tankers running around town, are common today. Groundwater is depleting fast and dies water table is receding.
A very plausible and practical solution is to conserve rainwater through rainwater harvesting i.e. conservation of natural water through artificial means. It can be done in two ways. Firstly, rainwater can be collected and stored in sumps and overhead tanks for direct use. Secondly, the rainwater can be recharged to groundwater as an alternative to natural processes, through pits, wells, and bore wells to maintain the water table. All secondary sources of water like rivers, lakes, and ponds are also fed by rainwater. The water we don’t accumulate is lost to surface runoff. Thus, rainwater harvesting can also restrict the incidence of floods which causes loss of life and property. Pursue rainwater harvesting. Water is precious.
