Adults Drinking In Front Of Kids
Children are like clay waiting to be moulded. They are constantly watching and absorbing from their environment. They look up to their parents as role models sometimes learning from them just by being around them. It becomes necessary, then, that adults always be on their best behavior.
When a child sees his parent drink at a get-together he is inclined to believe that drinking is socially acceptable behavior. It is important to point out to the child that drinking sensibly and responsibly is the privilege of being an adult. If the child sees his parent drinking every day, he will grow up thinking that drinking is something that adults do every day and look forward to doing the same when he comes of age.
The best thing for adults who drink everyday would be to do so discreetly that children are not subjected to it. If children see you drink socially, within reason, they will have seen firsthand the joys of drinking sensibly and will try to emulate that. Hiding from the children is not the answer. The child is going to go out in to the world and be subjected to peers and friends drinking at parties so it is better that he be aware of the pros and cons of drinking so that he is not pressurized in to drinking by his peers. A well informed child stands a better chance of withstanding peer pressure than an uninformed one.
