An Ideal Teacher

“The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires.”

A teacher is one who imparts knowledge in such a way that the learner absorbs it. He then gives the student space to accept it or question it. A teacher is our parent and guide outside our home. He seeks to teach us everything we need to know to live our lives to the fullest without being dependent on anyone, including him. An ideal teacher would be one who is so involved with his students that he makes a note of each and every child’s aptitude and attitude and deals with them accordingly, in order to bring out the best in each of them. He would come prepared and impart to them more than what is printed in the book. He must be able to show them the truth of life and inspire them to live by the ideals that are timeless. He may be strict or jovial, these being peripheral attributes, but he never should digress from the path of correctness. He must practice what he preaches! Children look up to their teachers and so a teacher must be honourable and correct at all times. He should not allow his prejudices or opinions to colour a child’s thinking.

“When you give a man a fish you feed him for a day; when you teach him how to fish you feed him for a lifetime.”The ideal teacher is as noble as that for he gives us the tools we need to live a fruitful life.
