My Dream
The sea was quiet and it seemed as if I was all alone. It was a beautiful day and I turned on my back to float, the sun rays kissing my face. Suddenly a group of clouds came out of nowhere and blocked the sunlight. I was happy, now I could float with my eyes open. As I watched the sky, I noticed that the clouds were so many that soon the sky seemed overcast. I felt one big rain drop hit my face, followed by another and then yet another. It was time to head back to shore.
I had drifted when I was floating and the shore seemed far away. The raindrops started pelting down. I sliced the water with my arms but it didn’t seem like I was making much progress. I kept stroking my arms harder as the drops started coming down faster. A flash of lightening was followed by a bolt of thunder. For a fraction of a second the sky was illuminated and to my horror I saw a big fin sticking out of the water. A shark!! I thought to myself and opened my mouth to scream ‘Help!’ but no noise emanated. I froze and began to cry uncontrollably. I closed my eyes. Suddenly, I felt someone slap me across the cheek. I opened my eyes to see that my brother Neeraj had slapped me because I had been crying in my sleep.
It was relieved that it was a dream and that I was safe in my bed, but wondered what would have happened if my brother had not woken me up. Would I have become the shark’s dinner?
