Qualities of A Good Leader

A good leader is an asset to any family, organization and Nation. A good leader is also hard to find. Being a good leader requires tremendous discipline. A great leader is one who can command respect and leads by example.

A good leader must be a visionary. He must have considerable foresight and hindsight as well. The interests of the people or organization he is leading should be his top priority. A leader must be clear of the goal and of strategies to reach it. He must be aware of the plus and minus points of the people under him and utilize their skills accordingly. He ought to motivate his team. There are different kinds of leaders like a dictatorial leader or a democratic leader, depending on their traits and mode of operation. One of the most important qualities in a good leader is that of decision making. His decisions should be well thought of and clear cut. He may or may not consult with his team as the onus of a right decision lies solely upon him. He ought to trust his subordinates but must verify in the best interests of the team. A good leader must not indulge in petty gossips as it diminishes his credibility. He must be willing to praise his team members for a job well done but must take the responsibility of failure. His belief in the organization or team must be strong in order to boost the morale of his followers. He should be honest in his dealings and hardworking as he expects the same in return.

“A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way and shows the way”. He inspires confidence in his people- confidence in him but more importantly confidence in themselves.
