Teen Suicide
Caught in that gray area where they are neither children nor adults, teenagers feel very insecure. Add to that the whole world telling you it is the time of tremendous possibility and you have the classic feeling of confusion and anxiety. There is much pressure to fit in socially, to perform academically and to act responsibly. The sudden onslaught of sexual feelings, a growing sense of self-identity and a need to be independent only makes it worse.
Teens commit suicide as a means of putting an end to their troubles. It could be the pressure of getting good grades to get in to college, the pressure of dealing with ragging in school, the pressure of dealing with a broken family, the pressure of dealing with failure, the pressure of dealing with sexual abuse, the pressure of dealing with something like homosexuality in an unsupportive family, or the pressure of a relationship. It could be anything. Sometimes it could be something as simple as dealing with unrequited love.
Teens resort to suicide when they feel disconnected from their family and friends, when the feeling of despair and isolation gets so overwhelming that the only choice they feel they have left is to commit suicide. A teen’s life is turbulent at best and the only way to keep a teen from harms way is to always be there for the teenager as a friend and as a guide. Constant counselling at school would go a long way in nipping the problem in the bud. The bottom line is that teens need attention and support and if they don’t get what they need they are going to find other ways to quell their fears.
