Essay on “Watching a Football Match”
My dad took me to a football match yesterday afternoon. Our team Stepford United was playing against Whiteburn Rangers. The two teams are great rivals. Our supporters were on one side of the ground and the Whiteburn supporters were at the other. You could easily tell which supporters were which from the colour of their scarves. Stepford United’s colours are blue and white. Whiteburn Rangers wear green and white. The match was quite slow and boring at the start. Then it started to get a bit more exciting. Our best striker, John Black, nearly scored a goal. Unfortunately, the ball hit the goalpost. We were all sad. Next, a Whiteburn striker called John Smith got the ball into the Stepford net. The Whiteburn fans cheered. We were very disappointed, but not for long. The referee did not allow the goal. Smith had deliberately pushed one of our players to the ground. This was a foul and so the goal was not allowed. The Whiteburn supporters started to boo. It was nil until five minutes from the end. Then Black scored a goal. The referee blew his whistle. We had won! We went to congratulate our team.
