What are hallucinations?

Sometimes people see things that are not really there like ghosts or other strange creatures or they hear voices. Unlike illusions, hallucinations are not the result of some external stimulation to the eyes or the senses. For instance, a mirage is an illusion. However, a hallucination is a product of fantasy. Mental disturbance, fear, ecstasy, and some drugs cause hallucinations.
