What is hard water?
Hard water is water in which certain minerals are dissolved. Soap will not work up a lather in hard water. Instead it forms scum. Hardness can be either temporary or permanent. The former can be removed by boiling the water. To remove the latter we have to use water softeners which replaces the hardness-inducing magnesium and calcium ions with sodium ions
