What is quicksand?

Quicksand has inspired fear in many people as they believed that it had the mysterious power to suck in victims until they disappeared. Quicksand is actually a light, loose sand mixed with water. A key difference from other sands is that quicksand will not support heavy objects. It is found near the rivers and on flat shores with a layer of stiff clay under it. If one moves slowly in it, it will be like water in which we swim.
