What is the pulse?
Pulse is the pulsation of the arteries caused by the action of the heart. It can be felt at any artery which can be felt through the skin. The pulse rate indicates how fast the heart is beating and the state of pressure in the circulatory system. A normal pulse rate in man is 75. In cats, it is 130 and an elephant has only 25. Some small birds have a pulse rate of nearly 200!
