Admiring The Eiffel Tower
Think Paris and an image of the Eiffel Tower or the ‘Tour Eiffel’ crops up. Located at the ‘Champs de Mars’, the Eiffel Tower overlooks the river Seine.
It was designed by Gustave Eiffel and was inaugurated in 1889 for the Universal Exhibition. Bemoaned then, as a blot on the face of the beautiful city of Paris, the tower has since caught the fancy of all Parisians and is the face of France today. This mammoth steel structure weighs 10,100 tons and is 324m tall.
A typical day around the tower has a beeline of tourists waiting to climb up, children playing on the lawns, people skating underneath and thousands of satisfied souls returning home after having seen one of the most admired and visited structures on the face of this earth! The tower looks imposing through the day but is prettiest at night when millions of bulbs light it up and sparkle for 10 minutes every hour. It is not something to be missed in a lifetime.
