Adversity

Adversity is much feared by mankind. It brings sorrow and suffering. It has its bright side also. It acts as a great teacher to mankind. It proves to be a blessing in disguise. The Duke Senior in Shakespeare’s play, “As You Like It” is eminently right in saying “Sweet are the uses of adversity.” Adversity enables us to use all our faculties to the best advantage. It comes as a big challenge and it can be faced successfully, only if we display great patience and fortitude. Adversity brings out the hidden virtues in us. It is a severe test of character. Adversity also tries our friends. It enables us to see life in its true colors. It destroys false pride. It enables us to imbibe the spirit of self-sacrifice. It makes us stand on our own feet. We learn to help ourselves. Let us turn the pages of history. Many great men, who shaped the destiny of the nation, were born in the cottages of the poor. They rose to great heights by dint of hard work. A poor student can never afford to waste his time in idle pursuits. He knows that his future depends on hard work. Rich people are usually dependent on others. The wheel of fortune goes on revolving. The rich do not know what precious gifts they have lost.
