A Visit to A Forest

A large area of land that is thickly covered with trees and bushes is called ‘forest’. A tropical forest is an awesome place to visit. I had the-opportunity of visiting one recently.

My father’s best friend Shambhu works as a forest officer. One day he took me along into a forest. I was thrilled to experience for myself what he had always spoken about the forest.

The moment I entered the forest, a cover of semi-darkness appeared in front of my eyes. The sky had almost vanished out by the canopy of leaves high above us. At ground level, thick vegetation grew in all the directions. The air was slightly wet and had a strange smell to it.

All around us were the sounds of insects, birds, animals and various other creatures. Although we could not see them, except for some birds, we knew they were there. Different sounds echoed all over, making the forest frightening and weird.

I had no idea how Shambhu uncle could find his way through the dense forest. He said he was just following a path seeing the position of different trees and bushes. However, as far as I was concerned, I could not see any path. I realised, how easily an inexperienced person could get lost and perish in the forest.

Carefully I followed uncle as we walked along slowly with lot of efforts. The most uncomfortable thing about being in the forest was the mosquitoes. These little leeches never gave up. In spite of thick boots and clothes, they managed to bite me.

For the first time in my life, I saw strange animals, different insects, birds, snakes, trees, huge spiders, flowers and creepers as thick as a man’s hand. The experience was unforgettable. I was awestruck by the creations of God.

When we emerged from the forest, I felt as if a great weight had been lifted from me. The clear blue sky was a welcome sight. The outside world was definitely easier to cope with. The forest made me feel stranded and helpless.

Such a visit was my first experience. I was impressed to see the beauty of nature so closely. It was a good experience but I would prefer to remain outside the forest. This was my most interesting visit to a forest.
