Community Service
On Sundays, we go to the church and then visit the community centre. Community service is voluntary. Dad says community service is the best way to help one another out.
There are three boards put up at the community centre. One is for men, the other for women, and the last for kids. The boards have lists of the jobs that require to be done in the community. You can pick anything you like as long as it hasn’t been picked by somebody else. Dad generally picks up the “Please, mow my lawn option”. He then checks whose lawn needs to be mowed and goes over to mow it for them. Mom’s favourite option is “Please, help me clean my garden”. Children over the age of seven are allowed to do community service. I like to offer to weed a garden or mail a letter.
Doing community service brings you closer to your neighbours. It makes you aware of each other’s needs and teaches you how to be of service to others.
